English Heritage

English Heritage is the Government’s lead advisory body for the historic environment. Each year we advise on 16,000 consent applications, invest £30m in securing the future of historic places, open 400 properties to the public, undertake research and maintain the Historic Monuments Record. Our approach is flexible, well-informed and based on helping everyone to understand and value the historic environment.

Planning Advisory Service

The Planning Advisory Service helps the planning sector with self-sustaining continuous improvement.  PAS works in partnership with all local authorities and others involved in delivering outcomes through the planning system to enhance performance and accelerate the speed of improvement. PAS offers a range of services to help planning authorities and their partners make good plans and deliver good development.  PAS is part of the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) and a member of the Local Government Association group.   PAS is funded directly by the Department of Communities and Local Government.
