RTPI Planning Awards
The list of Awards and categories is as follows:
Sustainable Communities: including proposals for and the creation of sustainable, mixed use, developments in rural or urban contexts which balance and integrate the social, economic, environmental and resource needs of the community. This Award is sponsored by The Crown Estate.
City and Metropolitan Areas : including major schemes and regeneration in larger urban areas. This Award is sponsored by Curtin & Co.
Town Regeneration : including physical and community regeneration of smaller urban areas.
Rural Areas and the Natural Environment : including all aspects of planning in rural areas from development guidance to village regeneration and the protection and enhancement of the natural environment including responses to the new agendas for landowners and farmers. This Award is sponsored by Welsh Assembly Government.
Heritage : including planning strategies for heritage areas and enhancement of groups of buildings or larger areas of heritage significance. This Award is sponsored by English Heritage.
Planning Process : innovative and imaginative use of the planning process to achieve positive results, including through active and effective involvement of communities and integration with other strategies.
E-government : making planning more accessible and efficient by the imaginative use of information technology. This award is sponsored by Planning Officers Society. This Award is sponsored by Planning Officers Society.
Arts Culture Sport : where public/performing art, cultural and sports proposals have assisted with the regeneration of places, including for example where local people have benefited from greater access to the opportunities provided.
Renewed Neighbourhoods : examples of developments that have overcome prior social, economic and environmental disadvantage and now provide a quality environment and a sense of place.
Spatial Strategies: spatial frameworks that are soundly based and have a demonstrable prospect of delivering sustainable development via coordinated action from public, private, voluntary and community sectors. This award is sponsored by Communities and Local Government.
Climate Change : to include specific planning and implementation responses to the need to respond to climate change. This Award is sponsored by Berwin Leighton Paisner.
Equality and Diversity : including good practice in the promotion of equality and diversity through planning within a local planning authority, consultancy or other body.

The RTPI Young Planner of the Year Award 2009
The winner will receive a place at the American Planning Association's National Planning Conference in New Orleans, Louisian from 10-14 April 2010, plus a place at the Planning Summer School, with an opportunity to give a talk on the New Orleans experience.
